Who was it that said, 'our biggest national security crisis is Barack Obama?*'

___The FBI on Friday searched the Maryland home of former Trump national security adviser John Bolton as part of an investigation into his handling of classified records, people familiar with the matter said.

“NO ONE is above the law,” Director Kash Patel said on X around the time of the search.

('no one' except Trump-supporting rioters who attacked the nation's Capitol to stop the certification of votes in the presidential election he lost, beating police and resulting in 140 cops injured and four police officers dead; violent insurrectionists who the man Patel works for pardoned and released into the public.)

Well, I'm a libertarian conservative, so I believe in limited government/maximum individual freedom.

...like I am with ALL of the former conservatives who now oppose Trump because he took the power they gifted him with and turned their OWN republican dogma into crass opportunism.

Where are his republican friends now?

I’d be Bwaaaahing all over DU if I didn’t think he’d try the same with even former Democratic presidents.

...but I'm still waiting for conservatives to actually do something about Trump, not just pick at him from the editorial pages of WSJ.

Where are his republican allies now? At some point, their party has to admit they've surrendered the game to Trump; jettisoned almost all of whatever principles they pretended to have and are now just reduced to the doublespeak that Bolton and others try and pretend is still a resonable facsimile of the old republican guard.

At some point, Bolton and the rest need to admit that their entire conservative act was a ruse to get elected, but I suspect he'll double down even more on the libs he likes to bash to try and regain his footing with his friends.

They have long tried to convince us that the US is a republic and not a liberal democracy. The moving goal post now says it is a male dominated white supremacy republic.

...is Donald Trump's ruse to consolidate unchecked power and make billions trading off of his influence and office.

There may well be true believers in the bullshit they say, but republicans only care about power, money and control, and all of the rest of their politics is a means to that end.

That's why they can turn on a dime on positions they've argued for decades. Anything to prime the rubes in the cult to keep voting for them, and anything to preserve their power.
