had an interesting evening yesterday

attended a high school graduation. southside of Tucson. 95% (or more) of names read were Hispanic. class of 2026 won over 12 million in scholarships, 5 students had graduated with associates degrees from Pima Community College the day before, getting their degrees BEFORE their HS diplomas. One student who had an unbelievable story won over 2 million/full ride to Princeton. She gave a barn burner of a valedictorian speech.

My favorite things were NO fucking pledge of allegiance, NO PRAYER, and the school Mariachi band/singer did the anthem.

They are right, the schools are subversively indoctrinating the kids in pride, dei, critical thinking, academic achievement, empathy. No wonder magats so afraid of everything.

8. I teach in Florida...

...my first teaching contract was in 1976 (yes, 50 years ago).

About 1/3 of my students were born outside the US and over half are "international". People from all over the world.

It is different and exciting, and I will soon have to give it up...but the US will never go back. The new wave of immigrants are changing the country, and MAGA cannot stop it.

14. Compare that to the HS graduation I went to last Friday in rural Oklahoma

About 200 kids, 90% white. They had 9 valedictorians. They read their churches as part of their introductions and all but one thanked God along with their families and teachers. It seemed required that they all blessed us. Lots of short, but boring speeches.
The craziest thing was the diplomas were presented in random order. Students didn't walk across the stage in alphabetical order, making it impossible to get a good photo of your graduate. School board was 100% white.
