Trump underwent vascular testing because of leg swelling: White House

Source: ABC

President Donald Trump underwent vascular testing after he had swelling in his legs, with all results within normal limits, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday.

Leavitt said Trump noted "mild swelling in his lower legs," which prompted the White House medical team to evaluate him.

"The president underwent a comprehensive examination including diagnostic vascular studies, bilateral lower extremity intravenous doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70," Leavitt said in the Thursday White House press briefing.

There was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease and an echocardiogram showed normal cardiac structure and function, Leavitt said, adding that all results from testing were "within normal limits."

and she lived to be 98, finally dying of old age but not specifically of heart failure. I'm not sure what caused her ankles to swell - there are a number of reasons, even being overweight or on your feet a lot - but even in her early '90s she always seemed pretty robust. Trump looks a lot sicklier than Grandma ever did.

As if anything coming out her mouth ever bears a shred of truth!

Leg swelling, also known as peripheral edema, can result from various underlying causes, ranging from relatively minor to serious conditions. It occurs when excess fluid accumulates in the tissues of the lower legs, often due to problems with blood circulation, the lymphatic system, or other medical conditions.

An estimated 10% to 35% of adults have CVI in the US, with 4% of adults aged 65 years or older developing venous ulcers.[3] Results across studies suggest that in the general population, between 1% and 17% of men and 1% and 40% of women may experience chronic venous insufficiency. Furthermore, the prevalence of varicose veins has been reported to range from under 1% to 70%. The variation in these estimations is likely due to the different diagnostic criteria used and the population surveyed.[1] Globally, the prevalence of CVI is higher in industrialized nations (eg, Western Europe and the US) due to more inactive lifestyles.[5]

The prevalence of venous ulcers, a common complication of CVI, in the US ranges from approximately 1% to 3%.[3] Similarly, lower leg ulceration occurs in approximately 1% to 2% of the global adult population and is reported to increase to 3% in patients older than 65.[5] Formation of an ulcer carries a poor prognosis, with 40% of patients developing recurrence despite standard treatment. Management of chronic venous insufficiency accounts for approximately 2% of the US's total healthcare.[11][12]

If those stats are for the general population and prevalence increases with age, it's more common in the oldest 10% than average.

Jul 2025

From wiki:

CVI is not a benign disorder and, with its progression, can lead to morbidity. Venous ulcers are common and very difficult to treat. Chronic venous ulcers are painful and debilitating. Even with treatment, recurrences are common if venous hypertension persists. Nearly 60% develop phlebitis which often progresses to deep vein thrombosis in more than 50% of patients. The venous insufficiency can also lead to severe hemorrhage. Surgery for CVI remains unsatisfactory despite the availability of numerous procedures.[6]

Bolding mine. It's a serious disorder.

That's the average for somebody born now, accounting for incidence of old age diseases, car crashes, homicides, suicides, childhood illnesses, drug overdoses ... Them's the odds without taking into account anything else but the newborn and all the risks.

There's also life expectancy given your current age (I've seen it called 'expectancy of life' to avoid confusion with 'life expectancy at birth', but that's apparently not the usual term).

I'm 66. Regardless of the life expectancy for somebody born in 1959, the New York State tables say I have--on average--15 years left to live. That's 81. Another table, from census.gov, for the cohort of males born from 1959-61 say life expectancy is 66.94 (specifically for Maryland). The difference? I survived this long, I'm treated by different medical practices, I've survived all the crap that could have killed me off so far--and my SES is built in, whether great, meh, or crappy health care access.

The NYS table gives a 79-year-old man an additional 7.78 years--on average. So 86, pushing towards 87. Because having lived that long, he's missed all kinds of things that could have killed him by now--with all the same hedges. And his life expectancy at birth would have, I'm guessing, been lower than mine. 1944 instead of 1959, more or less.

Elementary stats--and this is just averages.

Having lived through this with my husband's last days, the swelling in his legs, hands, abdomen, elsewhere, was a result of severe Congestive Heart Failure. His Type II Diabetes made worse due to the swelling. When the heart is not pumping effectively, oxygen does not get to the brain and the vital organs. My husband was experiencing memory issues complicated by the heart Failure despite having a more high powered pace maker put in in March.

Trump is in the throes of heart Failure and the cover up is obvious. Swelling and discoloring of the skin. I know the signs. Notice how he is slurring his words more? His use of even more makeup? Low blood oxygen pales the skin. It will only get worse for the TACO from here on out despite the cover up of his health.
