Two great Guitar World articles on Gary "Mani" Mounfield, legendary bass player for the Stone Roses and Primal Scream

The new one, of course based on older ones

“You always get some guitar player stealing everyone’s thunder. Bass is mega-important – anyone who’s got an ounce of groove in them realises that”: How a hypnotic ‘Mani’ bassline propelled one of the Stone Roses’ finest moments

which links to this VERY long interview from 2000 that they republished November 21:

“I found it more rewarding playing bass than playing rhythm. I've always been into Northern Soul and funk grooves and it was like, ‘This is it’”: Anchoring Primal Scream and the Stone Roses, Mani proudly defied trends, and re-defined rock bass in the 90s

For some reason the music video of the studio track of Waterfall, which looks ok in the newer article, just gets you a Video Unavailable error message when you click on it. This one works:

Somewhat piano like, which I immediately link to because that's how I play bass. I'm even busier than he is when I play.
I'm not quite hearing the "groove" thing he mentions, but it's awfully melodic. Nice round tone, too.
