My new insurance told me to get a pneumonia vaccine.
Yesterday, at my wellness visit, my physician noted that I had one vaccine in 2010 (while undergoing chemotherapy) and also in 2015 and that this should be it.
Anyone has any opinion?
Thanks.

(29,953 posts)Here is a very brief summary - this is CDC recommendations, not an opinion
*Children under 5: A routine 4-dose series of PCV15 or PCV20 is given at 2, 4, 6, and 1215 months. *Adults 65 or older: A single dose is often all that is required if utilizing newer vaccines (like PCV20 or PCV21). *Adults 19-64 (with certain conditions): Often requires a 2-step series (PCV15 or PCV20 followed by PPSV23 1 to 5 years later).

(197,531 posts)I got the first one in 2018 or 19. They said to take 6 months before getting the second one. I forgot about it and when flu shots came back around at work in 2022 I guess they said I could take the second pneumonia shot without redoing the first one.
Okay. Fine by me.

(980 posts)The doctor told me I'd never need another one. 20 years later I was told they had a better vaccine and I should get it. Now I think they give it to me every other year.
I had pneumonia 3 times before I got the shots, the first time when I was 4 or 5. I haven't had pneumonia since the first shot. I recommend it.
