Some posters seem to think that the "post up to 4 paragraphs" rule means posting the *first* four paragraphs, as opposed to *any* four paragraphs, and as you point out, the first four paragraphs almost always include at least one paragraph of background facts likely of no interest to DU readers. I have never posted LBN, I wonder if the LBN posting instructions page may not be making that as clear as it might be, that it doesn't have to be the *first* four paragraphs?
The reason someone clicks a link is because it piques their interest, and it is indeed irritating to click the link and not find the info, because the info that justified the headline was actually in the 5th, 6th, or 7th paragraph. That's the most important part that should be posted. And the worst is when you click the supporting URL to try to get to those other paragraphs, and it's behind a paywall!
But even if it's not paywalled, it's irritating to click, read, not find what you're looking for, click another link, and skip down to pick up where you left off. I've actually gotten in the habit lately of scanning the LBN section and NOT clicking the DU links, but instead clicking the bit at the end that takes you right to the source. But then, on the more interesting ones, I miss out on scanning the often interesting responses from DU members unless I go back to *that* page. No good solution here, I think, except maybe more guidance on the LBN Posting page itself.
