Constitution?

Like a serial abuser, Donald Trump wanted you to believe that you were alone. He wanted you to believe that he was unstoppable, that no amount of protest was going to prevent him from doing whatever he wanted to do.

He wanted you to believe that he was inevitable.

That ends now. On Tuesday, New Jersey, Virginia, California, Pennsylvania, and New York City showed that nothing is inevitable. They showed that one despot’s will leads to landslide defeats for his party.

It wasn’t just those states and the largest city in the nation. Democrats broke the Senate supermajority in the Mississippi Legislature. In Georgia, Democrats won statewide elections to a state-level office, the first time that has happened in over twenty years. In Maine, where Susan Collins faces re-election next year, voters overwhelmingly rejected a ballot measure that would have mandated photo identification and implemented sweeping changes to absentee voting.
