Im done with this turd. He likes to have RWers on and argues with more Dem guests than others. He was talking about the USSC Ballot case and says the Supreme Court with justices appointed by both sides - AS IF there were an equal number appointed by each party. That damn court is PACKED by Leonard Leo / Federalist Society by way of Donald Trump. SIX of the pieces of shit on that court are Federalist Society picks.
I absolutely DESPISE the phrase both sides when it comes to politics and media people. It UNNERVES me.
I get that Melber obviously is of the opinion that Trump should remain on the ballot but he should not push his own personal views via asinine commentary, constant interruption, and having RW guests on to appear fair when he clearly is not.
The man annoys the hell out of me and has for quite some time. So hes just off my list of media to watch after this past two evenings. If I could reach him, Id slap the shit out of him. Asshole.

(3,363 posts)His rap/hip-hop middle-aged white guy desperately trying to prove he's hip shtick is far past its expiration date. Above all, he is also smug and self-righteous.

(3,363 posts)I remember watching the day after Dobbs was leaked. Ari was not far away from protesters marching at the Supreme Court. Howard Dean was his guest. The first thing out of Ari's mouth? "Well, in the lyrics of the great Jay-Z..." I was angry enough that day, but I nearly threw a shoe through the TV at that point. Talk about not reading the room!!

(14,443 posts)I can watch him now and then and he does have a sharp analytical mind. But he spoils it by constantly trying to be Joe Cool with the rapper lingo.

(12,662 posts)So by not watching opinion talkers all day makes one less informed? Hardly, I have many sources besides wealth owned cable media.

While everyones opinions are legitimate here on DU, I urge a look at a larger sample-size of Ari Melbers work. Hes on our side, even if he isnt your flavor of advocate. Our side, democratic patriots, dont always demand narrow viewpoints and a scorched-earth style. Thats what the Republicans crave, isnt it?

(12,539 posts)And that is based on his behavior on air. No assumptions. He stated his opinion about the ballot case. And Ive seen him lambaste the CO secy of state over that.
Yea hes not my flavor, I guess. So, off my list he goes.

(179,847 posts)I have basically stopped watching him. I do not give a shit about rap music lyrics and Ari's attempts at legal analysis have been dumbed down so much that they are worthless. I do not like a couple of his regular guests. Basically, I only watch Ari on Mondays to see Neal Katyal

(23,229 posts)The question SCOTUS appears to be focusing on is NOT:
Should Trump be disqualified under the 14th amendment and removed from the ballot?
The actual question they are focusing on is:
Should an individual state have the authority to disqualify a candidate for federal office under the 14th amendment?
Melber isnt both sides-ing the issue, hes merely pointing out the likelihood that the Colorado ruling could be unanimously overturned by SCOTUS within the framework of the second question above.

(113,957 posts)that we don't like). It is how he conducts himself and the show--the long-standing pattern and his abject disrespect for his guests. Arrogance does not begin to cover it. And, he used to be among my favorites a few years ago before his ego took over and crowded out all else.

(12,412 posts)when they cant see truth because of their ideology. That applies to Democrats that voted for trump or didnt vote in 2016.
What good does it do to criticize say MSNBC for voter stupidity. I dont particularly like Melbar either, so I dont watch him.
White wing voters are the problem. Media does plenty to expose them, most just dont care.

(113,957 posts)perhaps you should start another with that specific topic.

(113,957 posts)who, in actuality know far more than he about the topic involved. But, he gets the last word AFTER they end the segment.
And his unbelievable stunts with rap music lines that he knows damned well many of his invited guests can not answer. Does he think that makes him impressive? I have no problem with his musical tastes, but trying to one-up the amazing variety of his guests with such one-upmanship is just repulsive.

(15,626 posts)I think he's straightforward, unbiased, and logical. I also think he's very much on our side.
I understand his views on the legal aspects of removing TFG from the ballot are unpopular here, but I think his conclusions were arrived at honestly.

So I terminated it.
Haven't missed it.
It seems to have gone down hill from that time.
It was already on the way.
I have mixed feelings about Ari.
I get the complaint
But I do appreciate that he does have a clue legally
so some of his discussions can have more depth that way.
Very rarely do I watch a whole cable program.
I can't. They lose me.

(144 posts)I think his coverage of the Jack Smith reply brief was excellent (as a former practicing lawyer) given the limited time to study the issue and breaking Kansas City news. And lets face it. If it bleeds, it ledes. (or is it leads?). In any event, arguing in the alternative is an acceptable thing to do, and I liked Aris simple, easy-to-understand Plan A (20-30 pages of why this case shouldnt be heard) and Plan B description (the last 2-3 pages of if you hear this case, SCOTUS, do it quickly and per this recommended schedule). Yes, Neal is a Saint. Very patient man given his giant intellect as former U.S. Solicitor General, arguing on behalf of these United States.
