I havent heard anyone pointing out, in the discussion about people with and without children, that the Republican party is the party with the most anti-child policies.

It seems letting mothers study and work and young kids getting socialized early makes for greater outcomes for both. This leads to better jobs for both. It seems kids were meant to be in a pod of 4 or 5 at least to learn from each other I say. Also the MAGA Republicans don't want the government to have increased revenue because I guess that could translate into power for the people.

(8,502 posts)If they did they wouldn't be obstructing programs designed to help them, wouldn't be refusing free lunch programs, wouldn't be cutting child nutrition and supplemental assistance, wouldn't be trying to kill the ACA, wouldn't be cutting food assistance for families in need, wouldn't be fighting a livable federal minimum wage, wouldn't be promoting child labour, wouldn't be fighting sound gun control legislation on assault rifles, wouldn't be fighting vaccination mandates for school children... etc. etc. etc.
Even their anti-abortion stance is a FRAUD.

saddle them with kids they dont want, punish women for getting pregnant, destroy LBJs Great Society programs like Head Start, defund public schools by directing tax money to charter schools and make the public schools a place of last resort
Punish women even more by forcing births on them even if it kills them. Shame women for having babies out of wedlock as Alito so charmingly put it and make sure part of their punishment is to have no public assistance and so remain stuck in poverty. Force women to stay married even if their husband beats the shit out of them and their kids.
We are a country that wastes tons of food every year. IIRC the first school lunch program was started by FDR, and the reason he was able to get it pushed through was not because Republicans had a heart transplant but because so many draftees were 4F from diseases of malnutrition like ricketts. Our kids still have diseases of malnutrition, but now its obesity, high blood pressure, and above all, diabetes.
The GOP has never valued human beings, starting from pregnancy. If they actually cared about the unborn they would expand the WIC program instead of trying to kill it.
Who do their policies serve? Why keep a large segment of the population uneducated and poor and unhealthy? Why do this on purpose? Why make joining the Army the best (or only) way out of poverty and lack of education? Why promote an all-white all-male army?

(5,837 posts)The GOP dresses up its regressive policies with "pretty" language designed to appeal to (hoodwink) those without critical thinking skills, while working hard to assure that critical thinking skills are not taught in school.
They care only about amassing wealth for themselves, something that necessitates an underclass stripped of agency and power and kept in poverty; the work of these poor souls only serves to further enrich the tycoon/oligarchs.
FDR broke the cycle in the early 20th century. Hopefully, we are now putting together the coalition who will put an end to this current "Gilded Age."

(925 posts)Im wondering why what seems quite obvious, and is pushback Ive seen in other contexts, is the issue of the Republicans poor policies on children not being raised by prominent Dems/supporters. I think it really needs air time.
