Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHey, Gail King!
I hope you enjoyed your rocket ride. It was especially cute that you, Katy Perry and the other ladies had matching outfits! Very cool.
Did your stunt really empower women? You got the free ride at the behest of one of the richest men in the world. Gosh, you're special.
Meanwhile, on planet Earth,. people are being illegally detained and renditioned to foreign countries by the Trump administration. He is violating court orders but boy, did you have a fun brief ride.
The economy is on the brink of collapse because of Trump's stupid tariffs and his erratic behavior that lacks a coherent plan.
The markets have lost in excess of a trillion dollars. Peoples' retirement accounts have been decimated. Millions of Americans-- that would be your audience, dummy-- will be drastically hurt by the policies of this administration. Thankfully, you have your millions so you'll never experience the pains of a great many of you fellow citizens. Good for you.
Trump did not lower prices on day one as he "promised." (Anyone who ever believes a Trump promise is an idiot.) Eggs in the U.S. are still expensive (as if that's a serious metric; use gasoline as a common denominator). Other food prices are increasing and so is everything else since the economy is rooted in globalism.
You take a joy ride on a billionaire's rocket and we're the disrespectful ones?! Is your next stop Disneyworld?
By the way, the man who gave you the free ride into space is the same guy who stifled real journalism at The Washington Post. But you were still okay with accepting this boondoggle yet you consider yourself a "serious" journalist. Quite pathetic, actually.
Your place of elite privilege is duly noted.
Kindly go fuck off.

These ladies are the worst, in my opinion, because they should be the ones fighting for women yet we have this kind of ass-kissing bullshit.
What a country.
Gail King is a part of the corporate take over of our democracy. Instead of kissing the ground after she landed, she can something else, in my opinion.
As I recently heard it "nicely" expressed: "She can go have a relationship with herself."
Thanis, NJCher!

(4,681 posts)"I wish people would do more due diligence," she said. "And then my question is, 'Have y'all been to space?' Go to space or go to Blue Origin and see what they do and then come back and say, 'This is a terrible thing.'"
So guess since I haven't been to space I can't comment on this.
"I think it's good that we can really address it
because I was one of those people before I went on this flight and before I became educated," she said, adding that Blue Origin's "intention" is more noble than she thought.
"To figure out a way to harness the waste here and put it in space to make the Earth a better place," King said, describing her view of Blue Origin's mission. "Every time a flight goes up, they get some type of information that can be used for something else."

This publicity stunt was pointless.
It didn't provide science.
It didn't provide any metrics.
It didn't advance any knowledge of space flight or rocketry.
It was Bezos showing off. Period. What an ass.
And every one of the people on the flight are useless tools of the oligarchy.
Kerry Perry, whose music I once enjoyed, is a major disappointment.

(343 posts)The only reason we even know Gayle King is because she is Oprahs best friends for years. I also think she might have been her producer. Thats her only claim to fame .just like Dr. Phil. Furthermore, we might say J.D. Vance owe his career to Oprah because she highlighted his book. You know, Oprahs Book Club. She had him on her show and publicized the hell out of that lousy book. She is quite the star maker. Lol.

(23,484 posts)Space flight isn't a joy ride, it is serious business rooted in science.
A publicity stunt, such as this SUBORBITAL flight is a meaningless effort that cost many millions of dollars. What are the benefits? Katy Perry is going to write a song?! Really? That is bullshit to the highest degree.
Gail King, who apparently was frightened about the flight, is going to praise the owner of the WaPo who has acted to diminish Freedom of the Press. When they disembarked for the capsule, they kissed the ground? Please provide me with one photograph of NASA astronauts, or Soviet/Russian/Chinese who made a similar stupid and meaningless gesture.
Well done,Gail. You must be so proud. Loser.
Frankly, Gail King is completely disconnected from the American people. She is unable to express commonality with grass-roots Americans. Her experience and her description of it is less than informative.
Still, MAGA is steadfast...

Corporate news is fundamental to the fascist/corporate take-over of the American democracy.
One fundamental element of fascism is when a government works with corporate power to dominate a population.
The American experiment is one the edge of collapse.

An expensive, pointless publicity stunt that was meant to distract from important matters.
Slight level of disappointment from me that nothing went wrong.
Not wishing anything fatal on the gurls, just something to mess up their makeup, mess up their hair, dirty their cute uniforms, maybe make them wet their knickers. That sort of thing.

Because if MAGA isn't stopped, it won't matter if "one girl says I want to go to space", the menfolk in charge will quickly be putting her back in "her place". And every other woman.

Since I notice you have 1 post, build some credibility on this site before you express your contrarian views.
In fact, there are many women in the NASA astronaut corps who are far more qualified for a journey into space. Katy Perry? Other than celebrity, kindly inform me what she brings to the table other than popularity. There are numerous scientifically prepare women who are astronauts who can provide knowledge and experience from such an experience. Katy Perry is going to write a song?!
Your response is pathetic.

(465 posts)For god's sake, quit your bitching! How many free rides to his golf courses has Donald had so far? "Free" at taxpayers' expense, I might add. How many "free" meals have we the taxpayers bought for our poor, needy congresspeople while cutting food stamps and lunches for hungry seniors and kids.
I'm not wild about Jeff Bezos - or any other oligarchs, either. However, one could accurately argue that he's spending his own money to do those self-glorification projects. Granted, it's money he's been gifted simply for being a rich, self-serving bastard. But then rich, self-serving bastards seem to be what we Americans like, or we would not have re-elected Trump.
Gail King? Give me a fucking break! Typical sour grapes. Let's pick on the black woman for getting "freebies." Just a welfare queen in designer clothing, I suppose.
Get over it! This is the "great" country we live in, the "land of the free," and the home of the duped. They love to see us get all worked up when "the other" gets something we don't get.
How many thousands of eggs is Donald going to lavish on the kiddies for the Easter egg roll this weekend? Did he open his wallet and pay for any of them? Or are we the gullible public footing the bill (while many families can no longer afford their typical Easter brunch meal)?
Seems to me it's all a distraction; a way to get us well and truly pissed off at our fellow human beings, a way to blame others and feel justifiably self righteous.while the truly culpable stand above the fray.and gloat.
Life is not fair - and probably never will be. Shut up and deal with it. Or do something to change what is into what ought to be.
Good luck with that!
