I used to have a commercial pilots license, and currently live on a lake and take my boat out frequently, so over the years I've come to depend on accurate weather forecasts. As time went progressed I've seen weather forecasting get better and better as our weather scientists learned more and had better forecasting tools.
Now, suddenly, it seems to me that weather forecast accuracy has taken a hit. Some days are forecast to have light wind yet when that day comes the wind is howling. Sometimes there might be a forecast for overcast skies (good for fishing) but when the day arrives there's not a cloud in the sky.
Maybe I'm imagining things, but since Eloon forced NOAA to cut back on data gathering it seems like weather forecasting has become less accurate. Is it just me?

(24,724 posts)old reliable forecasting models. In my area, increasingly inaccurate forecasts have been especially noticeable over the past three or four years. I live in Northern Minnesota, on Lake Superior.

(7,887 posts)Northern Wisconsin, just moved here x 1yr. I have noticed that the weather forecasts are off. I thought it was just due to wild fluctuations with the climate here, as in my previous place of residence ( Montana) the forecast tools were very accurate.
The weather app on my phone is way off, I think that is an "Accu-weather" model. The NWS site is more accurate but fluctuates quite a bit
My NWS feed may be the same as yours, Duluth?

Welcome to the region! I assume you probably get NWS out of Duluth.

(14,985 posts)I seem to recall NOAA was hit by DOGE... It's such a blur, I'd have to look it up.

(12,782 posts)I hadn't heard that before. Now I'm more convinced than ever that the GQP's plan is to privatize our weather data gathering, forecasting, extreme weather warnings, etc. etc.
Instead of tuning my weather radio to the nearest NOAA broadcast I'll be paying a subscription fee to get severe weather warnings.

(4,099 posts)forecasts. Even in the 2 day time frame. The weather is weird and more dangerous anyway these days so possibly climate change based. That said i have noticed something.

keep in mind that if repukes have their way, we will all be PAYING for forecasts
