Listen, this is a good gig: just going around Italy and eating and meeting people. It's great. The CNN show got canceled before he visited all of Italy's regions, but it was definitely nicely done. He went to places and ate food and discussed history and politics in a way that was informed and respectful. Italian American culture is too wrapped up in Campania (Napoli) and Sicilia - because that's where most Italian immigrants came from. There is, of course, nothing wrong with these regions and they're quite lovely, but Tucci does a nice job of breaking that mold and showing other aspects of contemporary Italy. I'm looking forward to the new show, even if it looks like a replay of the CNN show for the most part. Anything that gets people thinking in new ways about contemporary Italy (rather than immigration nostalgia) is fine by me!
