President Donald Trump posted a statement from the Oval Office Friday with what appeared to be a digitally altered image that Trump said was the hand of a Maryland father who was deported to a brutal El Salvador prison following officials’ unproven claims he is a member of the MS-13 gang.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is the subject of a string of court orders up to the nation’s top court demanding that the Trump administration “facilitate” his return to the United States, where he has been living for the last 14 years. The administration, however, has insisted without evidence that he is a gang member, even though officials initially admitted his deportation was an administrative error.

Now, the president has displayed what he claims to be such evidence — a black-and-white close up photograph of a hand that Trump identified as Abrego Garcia’s with tattooed knuckles, including “MS-13” written out above four symbols — that many internet sleuths are already saying was Photoshopped. The Independent has reached out to the White House and a lawyer for Abrego Garcia for comment.

“This is the hand of the man that the Democrats feel should be brought back to the United States, because he is such ‘a fine and innocent person.’ They said he is not a member of MS-13, even though he’s got MS-13 tattooed onto his knuckles and two Highly Respected Courts found that he was a member of MS-13, beat up his wife, etc.,” the president posted on Truth Social on Friday evening.

The "M S 1 3" "tattoo" is a lot darker than his real finger tattoos, the letters don't follow the contours of his hand, and the "3" is closer to his pinky tattoo than a real tattoo artist would have made it. Adobe needs to revoke Trump's Photoshop license for incompetence.

actually I'm sure that they aren't trying to pass off the MS13 as actual tattoos, but instead they are trying to caption the real tattoos below them. I think it's pretty flimsy though.

Not sure that all really tracks. Besides that, if you look up actual MS13 gang members images, they generally have a lot more tattoos and they aren't subtle about what they are meant to represent. There would be an explicit MS somewhere. 13 or roman numerals XIIV, or the devil horns hand symbol.

as being equivalent to MS-13 and presumed people looking at it would read it that way. However if you give something like that to IQ47, even if you told him, and it registered in his pea brain that the letters MS-13 aren't literally there, he'd say "fuck it who cares, I'm going to say they are anyway". That's a given, he's a pathological liar and narcissist.
