(49,472 posts)War isn't murder, there's money at stake
Girl, even Kushner agrees it's good real estate
War isn't murder, ask Netanyahu
He's got a song for that and a bomb for you
War isn't murder, it's an old desert faith
It's a nation-state sanctioned, righteous hate
Let's talk about dead people
I mean a-dead people
War isn't murder, it's the vengeance of God
If you can't see the bodies, they don't bloat when they rot
And the flies don't swarm, and the children don't cry
If war isn't murder, good men don't die
So in a short 20 years, when you vacation the Strip
Don't think about the dead and have a nice trip

(3,158 posts)Singing "Horses" and "The Poor" on Jimmy Kimmel. Three weeks ago, but I just saw this.
Horses
All my flannels made in Bangladesh
All my T-shirts in Vietnam
There are places that we quietly ignore
There are places that we go and bomb
You know I thought an awful lot about Jesus
Even more about Lao Tzu
They say that the way of the Tao is to do nothing
Then what the hell am I supposed to do?
You know the harder you think, the deeper you sink
The tighter you grip, the more that you slip
So I'm singing this song about loving
All the people that you've come to hate
It's true what they say, I'm gonna die someday
Why am I holding on to all this weight?

The Poor
If you worked a little harder
Then you'd have a lot more
So, the blame and the shame's on you
For being so damn poor
It ain't the price gouging
And it ain't the inflation
It ain't everyone above ya tryna make a buck from ya
And screwin' the whole congregation
I had that reduced lunch
I had the benefit cards
Never occurred to me to blame my family
For life being so damn hard
I should've paid attention
Back when I was in school
Then I could figure up the tax
I would know a lot of facts
I missed the class where they taught the rules
I was memorizing capitols
I was in the spelling bee
I must've missed the part
Where they taught the art of private equity

(9,099 posts)They top 40'd him. I hope he moves away from this and goes back to his roots. I'm sure the song is actually good but it sounds like all the rest of the top 40 country songs out there instead of his gritty no holds barred solo self. A polished produced product will never hold to a individual soul bearing presentation. But thats just me.

(3,158 posts)and they take a little more thought to understand than the typical top 40, imo. I think he's got a long way to fall before he gets to that level, but, yeah, I hope he keeps the skepticism and thoughtfulness.
