Nope. Albeit well applied in that photo, I'll give him that.

2. Many years ago I began working for a professional regional rock band

and I was stunned when I saw the guys putting on eyeliner. I asked them what gives and they told me that if you don't your face doesn't define when you're on stage with bright lights hitting you. One of the guys demonstrated it to me by doing a set with and one without. He was right it was noticeably different. JD probably picked this up from a makeup person for TV or something when he started into public life. Lighting and cameras are much better now for TV and you don't need to be too heavy with anything other than general skin makeup for having a good look on TV. On stage it's still the same. If you get up close to stage actors you kind of see the same thing.
