Holy Shit Biden's tribute to the Pope firsts

Slobby Donvict. Being read on BBC now - reporter says we have not heard anything yet from Trump.

He posted on X:

It is with great sadness that Jill and I learned of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. He was unlike any who came before him. Pope Francis will be remembered as one of the most consequential leaders of our time and I am better for having known him. For decades, he served the most vulnerable across Argentina and his mission of serving the poor never ceased. As Pope, he was a loving pastor and challenging teacher who reached out to different faiths. He commanded us to fight for peace and protect our planet from a climate crisis. He advocated for the voiceless and powerless. He made all feel welcome and seen by the Church. He promoted equity and an end to poverty and suffering across the globe. And above all, he was a Pope for everyone. He was the People’s Pope - a light of faith, hope, and love.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/20/jd-vance-granted-lightning-audience-with-pope-francis-in-vatican

Pope Francis and JD Vance, who have disagreed very publicly over the Trump administration’s attitude to immigration and its migrant deportation plans, met briefly in Rome on Sunday to exchange Easter greetings.

The meeting came a day after the US vice-president, who converted to Roman Catholicism in 2019, sat down with senior Vatican officials and had “an exchange of opinions” over international conflicts and immigration.

Francis, who is recovering from a near-fatal bout of pneumonia, received Vance in one of the reception rooms of the Vatican hotel where he lives. The 88-year-old pontiff offered the vice-president three big chocolate Easter eggs for Vance’s three young children, who did not attend, as well as a Vatican tie and rosaries.

Joe Biden and Pope Francis, with their 2,000 year old Catholic Church. It's not a "religion." It's a Church (Matthew 16:15-19). One good man was the president for all people, and the other good man was a giver of charity for all of humanity.

Love you malaise, but maybe give this church a break?

Genuine and heartfelt. But then, I'd expect nothing less from former President Biden, a devout Catholic and a good, decent man.

Pope Francis' death was the first news item I read this morning. Makes my heart hurt. Though I've been a lapsed Catholic for many years, I've always had immense respect for the man.

The power of love and empathy. Is it any wonder why The Impostor is so dismissive?

I liked this Pope though. Probably a silly reason, but when he chose Francis as his Papal name it endeared him to me. I have always loved animals so it made me smile that he chose their patron saint's name.

Also loved that when a little boy, whose dog had just died, asked him whether animals go to heaven," the Pope said yes they do without hesitation. I read at the time some old school thinkers had an issue with that, but he stood behind what he said.

I hope he is right too. I would love to see my five GSDs, who have passed away over the years, and all my favorite barn kitties that I tamed over the years, again. There was one kitty in particular named Magee(part Maine Coon), who had a neurological defect, who only lived 4 years, but he was the sweetest cat, I ever had. He died in 2008 and I still miss the little guy.

there used to be a lot of Catholics like him when I was growing up - it was the church in our small town that was always concerned about the poor. It has been a strange thing to see the modern Catholics align with someone like Trump. I'm not sure how they deal with his brutality towards others - it is certainly not what they were taught.
