So what kind of disgusting message will The Rapist spew about the Pope?

His Easter message was so disgusting, I can only imagine what he'll follow it up with, re. the Pope's passing.

It won't be overtly negative because there are too many Catholics in his administration (though a fair number are Opus Dei, which never liked Francis). It will probably be something like, "Melania and I send our condolences to Pope Francis' loving wife and children. He was very nice to me when we visited."

It was basically an attack on Francis' liberalism, arguing snidely that it helped undermine the conservative belief in an infallible papacy by taking positions contrary to those of US Catholic conservatives. In other words, Francis forced US Catholics on the right (like Douthat himself) to give up on infallibility because Francis was so very, you know, wrong about everything! Haha!

This is all very clever stuff, for maybe two weeks after the Pope has died, but Douthat had it ready to go morning of. The disdain that American Catholics on the right have for anything even hinting of liberation theology is beyond belief, but one had hoped that even fanatics like Douthat could at least wait for the body to get cold before attacking Pope Francis postmortem. Nope. They lack even that basic decency. Ross Douthat and the NY Times should both be ashamed of themselves.

Pope Francis was about as close to following the teachings of Christ as any pope in my lifetime. Douthat sounds like a POS.

because he said things Ross Douchehat and other Catholic conservatives disagreed with? Wait, what? I thought it was supposed to be the other way around - if the Church's accepted dogma is that the Pope is infallible when speaking ex cathedra (with the authority of his office), then aren't Douchehat, et al. wrong to the extent they disagree with the Pope?

Conservative Catholics like him are supposed to believe the second option, but Francis was such a looney leftie that they were forced to believe the first. Haha! Oh, Ross, such a clever little twist: you see, the American Catholic right was wrong about the papacy but right about their politics!

I mean, hey, if that's the argument they want to go with, fine. But could he have waited a week? A few days? A few hours after the announcement? Like I said, a complete lack of decorum and decency from the key public spokesperson for right wing American Catholics, and in the pages of the New York Times. Truly despicable behavior.
