Oligarch Facilitation Policy
Several years ago - I'm unable to determine exactly when - John McCain declared that the reason government is not working very well is money, money in politics. In the years since then the problem has only gotten worse. The idea that money is a form of speech which can be openly or secretly funded by anyone anywhere is the current reality. It could be called the oligarch facilitation policy. Democrats (should) have a plan for changing this.
Possibly the most reliable financial reality, especially in the world of capitalism, is it takes money to make money. The wealthy get wealthier while most other people experience economic hardship, poverty, or near poverty as they struggle to pay for basic needs such as rent and health care. Democrats (should) have a plan for changing this.
Question. With capitalism, is greed good or bad? A brief scan of economic history (Wikipedia) reveals that there have been many financial crises, panics, and recessions, and some depressions. There have been approximately 40 such economic events in the U.S. since 1700. Many were triggered by over-speculation (greed). Speculation is a risky credit/debt strategy of some sort in an effort to maximize profit or wealth. There is good evidence that wisely structured regulations can help minimize the frequency and severity of financial panics and crises. So, who is foolish enough to oppose regulations? The greedy, of course, the same people who tend to trigger financial crises. Democrats (should) have a strategy for dealing with this.
