Why Hegseth's wife?

The drunken A-hole includes his wife in text chats about top secret war ops. Then he brings her to high level meetings with other countries. Why?

My theory:
He remains so drunk that he knows he must have someone else in the room to remember everything said. She's the only one who can't be asked to testify against him.

Is he drunk most of the time, in blackouts, he has no recall of what he said or did?

Or is she making sure he is not drinking on the job?

Has he put her on the payroll, so she has to show up every now and then?

Is she his emotional support animal?
He knows people don't like him, that he is incompetent and in way over his head.
So he brings his wife along to hold his hand.

And she, being a former Fox news producer, probably thinks she is smart enough to have access to and advise him on national defense issues. She seems as smug and arrogant as he.

I had seen evidence of this in earlier reports. He doesn’t trust her. Pretty typical of psychopaths.

A sponsor should never be your spouse.
Should always be same sex and usually same orientation.

She could very well act as his "beard."

My late brother, who drank himself to death, successively hid his alcoholism for many years because his family covered for him. My other brothers and I, as well as our parents, were absolutely gobsmacked when we found out.

When one of us would call him, his wife or son would say he was out when he was passed out on the couch. If he was up and sober, we'd go over and everyone pretended like everything was normal. But, as soon as we left, out came the liquor. When we'd set up a get-together, he'd agree but, as it got worse, he'd get out of it somehow. He lost his years-long professional job, then hopped from one menial job to another. He treated my two nephews badly. His wife divorced him when the youngest boy went to college.

Alcoholism is hard to overcome. Hegseth has a lot of problems that should disqualify his serving in any leadership role anywhere. Alcoholism is just one of them.

If she is sneaking him baby bottles of liquor (they probably have a name, but I don’t know what it is) during potty breaks. If he’s as far gone as people have reported, he probably needs something to function in any capacity.

I was thinking the same thing, that he didn't know what he was doing and relied on wife and brother to keep him under control and to tamp down the damage he might otherwise do. Plus as you said, she can't be compelled to testify against him and the brother is also his lawyer so same thing (I think). He is a total clown and sooo very out of his depth that he knows is and is trying to compensate for his total inadequacy.
