(40,342 posts)a town hall to try to prevent this. Though DeSantis would probably threaten the state university, FSU should join the local community to fight this.
from New College Takeover
Tuesday, April 22
5:30-6:30 pm
Join us at Selby Library (1331 1st St, Sarasota) for a critical non-partisan community-focused town hall event to take action to protect the iconic Ringling Museum of Art from New College's proposed takeover. Let's unite as a community to ensure this historic cultural gem and economic powerhouse remains independent and preserved for generations to come. With the museum's future hanging in the balance, your voice and presence can make the difference! The decision deadline is expected week of May 5.
We need to act now!
The event will include:
Concerning details of the proposed transfer
Serious financial and operational risks to museum and its collections
Assessment of potential community cultural and economic loss
Immediate steps needed before May 5 deadline
The proposed transfer of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art from Florida State University to New College of Florida threatens the very foundation of this irreplaceable 66-acre cultural compound. This proposal could jeopardize The Ringling's financial stability, collections, curatorial expertise, accreditation and Sarasotas historic, cultural heritage.
Under current FSU management, The Ringling has flourished. It is the #6 museum in the COUNTRY for visitor experience with 400,000 visitors annually. The proposed transfer would dismantle decades of careful institutional development with potentially devastating consequences.
This town hall is our community's crucial opportunity to take decisive action now. WE CAN DO THIS!

But I think New College is a state school, Harvard is private so I don't think he can win this. I'm sure he'll say because the fed gives funding to the school but that shouldn't have baring because funding is for different grants and research, nothing to do with school operations
