(30,237 posts)Listening to Maher squeal about Larry David's awesome takedown. His whining has already commenced; saw an interview article yesterday, here on DU---very gratifying.
Outstanding cartoon image, by the way. Hardly anybody more deserving of a knockout punch than Maher.

(73,928 posts)by piggybacking here I won't have to put up with the posts saying that they don't know why there are hundreds thousands millions of posts on MAHER every hour day week, how they HATE him and every post and every poster about him, how they never ever watch him but wiĺl post in all these MAHER threads to announce proclaim declare to the farewell cruel world about their profound feelings on this!1
*** Hookay, deep breath. Am piggybacking here, because when I vent against thread-debbje-downers in my own threads that they have ruined, it only deadly-ruins the thread-mood that much more. Whereas doing it guesting in somebody else's thread is a show of support.
*** To the Thread-Downers I say: There are thousands of threads out there that you can sift through to find ones that meet your "high standards" to which you can contribute your deep thoughts, wit, and pith. It's hard to imagine, but it would be so easy for you to SKIP the ones you don't like without ruining them for the doubtlessly FEW who might like them and go post constructively over there.

(103,484 posts)piece of shit he is, and therefore why it's worthless posting who he's going to chat to.
No one bothers regularly posting who are Joe Rogan's guests; Maher should be held in the same category. Trying on DU to make it look like Maher will do some good by opening his mouth is liberal-washing him.

(50,089 posts)Might be worthless to you, but worth it for many here who are grateful to Rhiannon12866 for continuing to post.

(103,484 posts)He does daily shows (podcast and on YouTube) and has about 50 million downloads a month. Maher gets about half a million viewers a week.

(22,789 posts)And that's fine. I wouldn't cajole anyone to watch him if they're not inclined to do so.
But I enjoy him. Sure, he says quite a few things that I disagree with. But he also make points that I fully concur with. And I get a few laughs every episode.
His guest can be enlightening as well.
It's 45 minutes of my week that I usually don't regret.

Platforming this shit may replace some viewership that has been lost.
I have said for a while now that "it" must be hell in a room.
Maher was just played.
The upcoming show seems a mea culpa of sorts,,, maybe.

(10,494 posts)In the 80s and 90s, back when the Religious Right was very invested in whatever was on prime time television. "As a Chreeeeshtyan, I would never allow my children watch that filth. The networks should be ashamed of themselves." And then they'd look around to make sure everyone saw how virtuous and incorruptible they were. As a Chreeeshtyan.
It's like, or you could just not watch it? No? Gonna make it an announced signal every week, huh?
K.
I don't even like Maher that that much. He's smug, a little insufferable, and dare I say a little out of touch. Got way too much of that "off the lawn!" vibe going for him. I'm not sure I've watched anything besides New Rules the last few weeks because I've been busy and never get around to it. But he does have good points buried in there, and he's at least unique. He's also far, far closer to what your typical voters think and feel than most of his detractors. I'll take someone who thinks for themselves than the 20th person today repeating the same lines political PR people wrote for them to go disseminate around social media.
(I always wonder if there's a clubhouse no one invited me to, where people are handed pamphlets with the words and phrases they need to use that week, and then send them out into all of my feeds. It's so friggin weird to watch in political media).
I'll keep watching precisely what I want to watch, no matter how much pursed-lipped tutting it generates. And if it's heresy, who gives a shit, lol. Like there's some eternal damnation awaiting me because an online slacktivist disapproves of my choices.
I'm gay, honey. I've dealt with far worse than the little faces people make when they dislike someone's taste in television.

Oh, and you have now shown everybody your true colors by eating at McDonalds. Don't you know you are supposed to boycott them because they have franchises in Israel and gave food to the IDF?!

Hope your studies are going well!

(10,494 posts)Genuinely had no idea, lol. We get it so seldomly and the stars aligned such that me, my partner, and a nephew all had a free hour when wed be around one. So boom. Double cheeseburger. So tasty.
Wanted a McFlurry, but gotta be living that cute in scrubs life by August. The deprivations we suffer for that Grays Anatomy fantasy.

(2,437 posts)Full disclosure:
I developed an app that scans DU for any reference of Bill Maher. Upon locating such, it sends a text message to the subsriber's phone with a link to the thread. Its very popular, Ive sold a number of them, no doubt some/all are members of this site!

(2,437 posts)Really looking forward to Al Gore, hard to imagine a bona fide Dem not interested in what he has do say. Adam Schiff is always worth watching as well.
And of course the New Rules segment is always fun.
Thanks!
