Musks team installed a Starlink Wi-Fi terminal on top of the White House, allowing them to bypass data-tracking security measures.(snip)
The officials in charge of protecting the White Houses communications were not informed of the installation ahead of time, insiders told the Post.
(snip)
However, the insiders suggested that the move was intended to bypass White House systems that track the transmission of datawith names and time stampsand secure it from spies.
Starlink doesnt require anything. It allows you to transmit data without any kind of record or tracking, one insider told the Post. White House IT systems had very strong controls on network access. You had to be on a full-tunnel VPN at all times. If you are not on the VPN, White House-issued devices cant connect to the outside.
With a Starlink connection, that means White House devices could leave the network and go out through gateways, the person said. Its going to help you bypass security.

I keep thinking of how Michael Cohen was used as *rump's "fixer" and to absorb flak.

I am continually astonished by what these guys were allowed to do. Meanwhile, federal contractors have to spend millions maintaining systems to meet cybersecurity compliance standards, or lose federal contracts.
But apparently, if the company's owner is a huge donor to MAGA, they let you do anything.

Of course Musk has his own ideas as well.
