So much for protecting female athletes - Or maybe some female athletes just don't count.

(513 posts)She and her dad decided to act with poor sportsmanship and got the consequences of their actions. But the dad thinks that trans girls competing is bad.
"They celebrated AB Hernandez on the podium, and Clara was disqualified for having a celebration. We're lost on that ... I'm confused because now ... I've got to worry about an AB Hernandez jumping into the 400 meters next year?"

In high school athletics we should be teaching the athletes to be better people. But I think the original celebration was also utterly classless and shouldn't be emulated. Bringing in a prop says this was planned. They could have asked ahead of time. They didn't and put themselves in that position.

As far as " classless" - You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I think most track and field fans would disagree. The sport of track and field was resurrected by one of the greatest showmen in sports history. People loved Usain Bolt's showboating as much as they loved his dominance. Michael Johnson tossing his golden cleats also comes to mind.
And as far as the dad taking a dig at A.B, he was wrong.

You can't have athletes getting stuff tossed to them from the stands and acting out elaborate and disruptive celebrations.
It was unsportsmanlike, and they should have known it was. Unsportsmanlike behavior at a track meet can result in DQ from the event or even the entire meet.
Dad hopping the fence is some BS too. He'll be lucky is he's ever allowed into another CIF event for the rest of his life.

(7,341 posts)The video does not have audio to hear if the official was indeed yelling at her, but clearly shows an official grabbing her arm.
Why did he put his hands on her? To show her what good behavior looks like? I don't blame dad at that point for going to make sure his child was OK.
