The American public will see this for what it is: orchestrated overkill. An attempt to get out in front of No Kings Day with a Portland-style staged display of power.

I saw one of his interviews, and he is obsessed with Gavin Newsom. He didn't say anything much about rioters. He's focused on getting Newsom.

1. Nobody attends the "birthday" parade. Nobody.
2. No Kings Day happens everywhere.
3. We are going to have to initiate General Strike days, where nobody works or does anything. Except, emergency services.

Nothing he does here will be something he can be held accountable for, thanks to the Roberts Court. I still think we should go after his golf course. Don't know how, but we should eliminate it for him.

I feel really blue today, in more ways than one.

In any case you can't have it be unclear.
The courts must decide, and it will determine whether Trump can take over all the National Guards or whether these are forces that belong to the states. Trump doesn't want the Governors to have any force available to them if he starts doing even crazier stuff.

10. Newsom spells it out in this letter....
Sun Jun 8, 2025, 08:18 PM

Read the entire text of Newsom’s letter below:

Dear Secretary Hegseth:

On June 7, 2025, President Trump issued a memorandum to your office entitled “Department of Defense Security for the Protection of Department of Homeland Security Functions.” The memorandum purports to invoke 10 U.S.C. § 12406 to “call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard . . . to temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to protect Federal property.” The memorandum further directs “actions as necessary for the Secretary of Defense to coordinate with the Governors of the States and the National Guard Bureau in identifying and ordering into Federal service the appropriate members and units of the National Guard under this authority.”

Section 12406 states that “the President may call into Federal service members and units of the National Guard of any State in such numbers as he considers necessary” to (1) repel an invasion of the United States by a foreign nation; (2) suppress a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States; or (3) execute the laws of the United States when the President is unable to do so with regular forces. Section 12406 further states that “[o]rders for these purposes shall be issued through the governors of the States.”

.......

Last night, the Adjutant General of California received a memorandum from your office with the subject line “Calling Members of the California National Guard into Federal Service,” which states that “[t]wo thousand members of the California National Guard will be called into Federal service effective immediately for a period of 60 days.” Notably, this directive did not issue “through the governor[] of the State[]” as required by section 12406; the Department of Defense did not transmit this directive to the Office of the Governor, nor was it approved or ordered by the Governor of California. This directive is also inconsistent with the President’s memorandum, which anticipates “coordinat[ion] with the Governors of the States” in identifying and ordering units of the National Guard into federal service.

He should have told Trump he couldn't accept the orders if they did not come from/through the Governor of California. Newsome should dismiss the Adjt. General.

That doesn't mean it was right or legal however. Unfortunately that has to be dealt with after the fact.

The letter starts that process so I don't think the General will be dismissed.... due to the chain of command. This is one of those gray areas that Trump is so good at exploiting.

We will have to see what happens.

There has to be a problem before they can litigate it. We don't know if there are lawyers who have been working on this, just as the AGs of many states were preparing cases against Trump even before he took office.

It wasn’t very long ago when kristy noem (sp?) as governor got on tv and railed about President Biden threatening to deploy the National Guard in texas to prevent razor wire from being placed in the Rio Grande. She said that would be stomping all over texas’s “states rights.” Where’s that plastic-filled platypus now?
