The Democratic House voted in lock step, save one member from Maine. Chuck Schumer kneecapped them and then went on Chris Hayes to state his strategy of letting Krasnov burn it all down and then beat them in the election.
Many people believed that Dems would be blamed for a shutdown. Many people believed that by giving Krasnov what he wanted would protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, that didn't happen.
Daughter is driving from Pittsburgh to Bethesda; she just saw a sign:

Who Needs Gram Anyway
with a picture of an old lady.
Should have fought them on inauguration Day.
Do Town Halls before they pass the Big Ugly Death Bill.

(13,846 posts)Rightly or wrongly, that was absolutely what the optics said - and what the public was going to take away. And - learned from the Rs that 'government shutdown' is really sh*tty messaging and bargaining chip. A fool's errand.
