4. I have thought so for years. Music stirs the soul and gets bodies moving. It needs to be singable.

The songs stick in the brain and get carried into the rest of life.

My generation of dedicated social justice singers has all but passed away now. We need younger ones to show up, dammit, and while I’d love to sing the old songs again, we need the youngsters to write new words. Folk songs get adapted for generations and even centuries — go to it.

5. They're out there. Even OOG Neil Young sings about it to keep Hope alive. Have you heard of Jesse Welles?

I've heard him, and my millennial son tells me he's got millions of views on YouTube. Just type in his name and see what comes up. I love his "My Billionaire Daddies Are Fighting" and "The Poor." And definitely "Horses" and "united health." And "Philanthropist." Sorry to go on, but at times he approaches being 'Dylanesque.'

Verse 1
Lookin' for a leader to bring our country home
Reunite the red white and blue before it turns to stone
Looking for somebody young enough to take it on
Clean up the corruption and make the country strong

Verse 2
Walkin' among our people there's someone who's straight and strong
To lead us from desolation and a broken world gone wrong
Someone walks among us and I hope he hears the call
Maybe it's a black man or a woman after all...

(He varies lyrics in verse 3)

Verse 4
Just like his big new fence this president's goin' down
America's moving forward, you can feel it in every town
Scared of his own shadow, buildin' walls around our house
He's hidin' in his bunker, somethin' else to lie about

Some individual or group needs to say, “Hire me! I’ll be there!” And mail the organizers a cassette (or whatever version we have today) of their toons and pass out song sheets.

Several weeks ago the deejay at our streetcorner rally was playing music that actually sounded singable, so as we were all getting ready to leave I asked him if he had a playlist I could see. He didn’t — too bad, because I was hoping to get a clue and learn something new.

Our chants need an update, too. …
