Arresting people for warning about ICE

“In Irvine, Calif., ICE agents drove a phalanx of military vehicles in the Orange County suburb to arrest a person, though not for illegal immigration. They were seeking a resident’s son who had allegedly posted fliers alerting neighbors to the presence of ICE agents.

The raid alarmed the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, an organization that defends free speech, which requested a copy of the warrant. “Criticism of government officials is core protected speech, and to criticize them you have every right to identify them,” said Aaron Terr, the group’s director of public advocacy.”

I am very encouraged that Ventura is responding, and from other info it looks like we’re collaborating with the other Central Coast counties, i.e. Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, known locally as the Tri-Counties.

May ICE melt in the heat of a thousand suns.

COMMUNITY ALERT
Confirmed ICE Activity in Ventura County

Fellow Democrats,

Since early this morning, we've received an influx of alerts from 805 Immigrant Rapid Response System and VC Defensa confirming ICE operations throughout Ventura County.

Videos of caravans of dozens of ICE vans in our county’s agricultural fields, schools and apartment complexes have filled our community with fear. This comes as our counterparts in LA are being tear-gassed, arrested and intimidated by this administration- which so negligently denied the use of the national guard in the January 6th riots- but approved the use of 2,000 national guards in the streets of Los Angeles, amidst protest from our Governor and Attorney General.

Make no mistake, our democracy is being threatened.

While we honor the laws of this nation, we refuse to stand by as Donald Trump weaponizes federal power to trample due process and rip families apart. This is not justice — it’s tyranny in plain sight.

In these times, we need to stand up as Democrats against this wave of terror. It is our opportunity to show up for our immigrant community, our essential workers, and our democratic processes. Right now, our local response networks are at capacity.

We need volunteers but training opportunities are limited at this time. However, it’s important that we all continue to stay active in any way we can: Stay informed and help inform others through the Alerta systems; share photos and videos with response teams; and if you’re able, drive through the fields to help keep watch for ICE activity.

In the next few days, the Ventura County Democratic Party will share additional ways to get involved. Please note that volunteer activities may include the following:
Drive people (to court appointments, to get groceries for folks, etc.)
Report ICE Sightings to the hotlines, who will then confirm these sightings
Training on how to confirm sightings and capture footage verifying a confirmed sighting.
Passing out Know Your Rights information and materials

…flyers? I didn’t quite grasp what he’s been arrested for — but hell’s bells my friends and I used up a lot of mimeograph ink back in the day.

And ICE swooped into this Orange County neighborhood in force to pick up one youngster who was emphatically not breaking any laws. Clearly a terroristic move, afaiac.

This raid is an un-American display of intimidation that betrays the values of a free and open society. Silencing voices through fear runs counter to the spirit of democracy.

Every time I travel my gps warns me of speed checks coming up on my route. It seems that while it may save me of a ticket it is in fact the same as putting up fliers to help keep people from running afoul of the law. In both cases someone is standing in between the police and a potential lawbreaker and helps keep the police from doing their job. Viva LA !
