These are custom-made poles -- they could have been 85 feet tall, or 91 feet tall -- but they went with exactly 88 feet. Take all the time you need with that. The Anti-Defamation League and the SPLC have very specific definitions of what the number 88 represents.

(33 posts)88 is a white supremacist numerical code for "Heil Hitler." H is the eighth letter of the alphabet, so 88 = HH = Heil Hitler. One of the most common white supremacist symbols, 88 is used throughout the entire white supremacist movement, not just neo-Nazis. One can find it as a tattoo or graphic symbol; as part of the name of a group, publication or website; or as part of a screenname or e-mail address. It is even sometimes used as a greeting or sign-off (particularly in messages on social networking websites).

(6,418 posts)Alex Trebek was the host, and he is every bit as nice a person as he appears on television. During the commercial breaks, he stepped to the front of the stage and took questions from the audience.
Two months after my appearance, Alex announced his cancer diagnosis. And about four months later, my cancer returned for the third time. I got lucky - my cancer was treatable by immunotherapy and has not returned in six years. Watching his cancer journey was like losing a dear friend.

If you mean Trump's father, I'd like to know your source. We know old Fred was racist af, but being a Grand Wizard of the KKK is awfully specific. I'd love to know what the evidence is for this.
I am also not firmly convinced that Trump knows or cares what 88 stands for. He's much too self-absorbed to have any kind of strong allegiance to Hitler, or to anyone else other than Donald J. Trump. (I know about the book, but that doesn't prove any personal devotion to AH as an individual. I think he just likes "strong men" in general.)

(5,968 posts)His father was arrested in 1927 at a KKK rally in NYC but there is no proof that he was a supporter or member (though he may have been). But given that there is no proof he was eve a member, the idea that he was Grand Wizard is ludicrous.

Fact Check: Fred Trump was detained at KKK rally but there's no evidence he was supporter
Among those arrested, the article identifies a man with the name and address of the home of Trumps father in Jamaica, Queens. The article details the charges filed against six of the men. However, it does not identify any charges against the elder Trump and merely states that he was discharged.
The article does not say Trump's father was a member or supporter of the KKK or whether he was a bystander, falsely accused or otherwise the victim of mistaken identity during the chaotic event.
The information available in the New York Times article made it difficult to figure out whether Trumps father was directly involved in the melee or was simply a bystander, falsely accused or otherwise the victim of mistaken identity during the chaotic event. There is no indication in the article that Trumps father was a member or supporter of the KKK.
The other claim is partly true:
In a 1990 interview, Mr. Trump said he had a copy of Hitlers Mein Kampf, although his first wife Ivana Trump and the friend who gave him the book said it was actually My New Order, a collection of Hitler speeches.

(6,094 posts)Trump doesn't care about numbers and certainly neither cares about nor understands symbology... tho, as into Marketing and branding, one would think he might take an interest.
No, this is ALL on Miller and the other South African racists in the WH. But you know what? Those damned "flag poles" (probably outfitted with the Nazi flag when all is said and done) can be taken down and destroyed faster than Melania destroyed our beloved rose garden.

ProfessorGAC
(73,558 posts)At a jazz competition at a major state university here, I got a chance to play either that or a Steinway fir the solo improvisation section.
I picked the Bosendorfer because I was fascinated by the extra 9 keys. (I was a 16 year old kid.)
I figured out to use a few of those notes in my planned piece & maybe 5 in my my extemporaneous piece.
But, what I found the coolest was the way the extra resonance made it sound when the dampers were up. The Nirmal low notes were amazingly rich. Of course, it was a $53,000 piano even back then. ($333k today) so, it's going to sound magnificent with 88 or 97 keys.
