The blockage of utoob videos by the demand for a sign-in to prove you're not a bot?
I have dumped my cache and rebooted and everything. Whether embedded on DU or straight on utoob, they demand a sign-in to watch anything.

(7,645 posts)Otherwise until you do and expect this elsewhere moving forward, but also get the UBlock lite or Ublock Origin extensions, and don't use Chrome or Edge browsers.
Brave, Vivaldi, Pale Moon, Opera, yadda yadda
If you need to ask why those 2 browsers, don't, they are run by Google and M$, and a silly question at this point that I just answered.

(97,543 posts)I bailed on googel when they decided that I couldn't access my email when I traveled or, sometimes, at home and eventually not at all. I got a new email provider and I have never used krome or any other googel login thing. I have used firefox since it's been available and I don't use G's search anymore either. Stopped using that years ago too.
This is a new development and, from now on, when it is happening I will choose to avoid the platform for some stretch of time before bothering with it again. I am not in a time sensitive situation where I have to know everything right now. I can live without googel and it's products, just need to know which adjustments I need to make.

(7,645 posts)The same account by the way will be used for image.google.com and for generic searching: startpage.com [no logging.]
If worried about Windows, get a mini computer or use an old one just for emails and bill paying, so no real account business is on your main gaming/surfing rig?
Limits "windows" of opportunity down a ton!

(97,543 posts)Good advice but the only games I play are the geography and words puzzles, like wordle, and globle and I don't sign in to those either. I avoid subscriptions online. I don't do any banking or password management, don't submit anything to any kind of cloud.
I do have several restrictions on my browser and an additional protection software package so I anticipate some sites not working, it's when sites that usually work just fine suddenly demand a sign in that I question what's going on. Especially since the problem goes away after a time with little to no effort other than waiting. Just seems odd, wondered if anyone else had this happen and, if so, what they did or found out about it. Wasn't expecting weird lecture series from some respondents... see above.
Thanks.

(149,655 posts)To answer your question would require a bunch of information from you that you shouldn't give to anyone. the problem is not with YouTube or DU. It is with you and your setup and YouTube account. If you're using a VPN, that might trigger it. If you refuse all cookies, that could do it, too. It's something you are doing, though. Look there first.

(97,543 posts)A couple weeks ago, I have changed nothing in that time. Not using a VPN. Guess I'll just go without from now on, fuck utoob and the need to sell my private data. I'll get the info eventually.

(149,655 posts)I use Google, and my YouTube login is stored by Google. I keep the browser loaded all the time, since that's the browser I use. So, if something takes me to YouTube, Google logs me in there. I don't care. Nothing is risked by me at YouTube, so i don't worry about it.
So, your browser could be the culprit. You're logging into DU, so you're using your browser to do that. If it were Google, and you allowed Google to store your YouTube login, it would be an automatic thing. But, if you're not using Google or you don't allow it to store your Login, you might get what you're seeing now.
Bottom line is that if this behavior you're seeing just started, it probably is related to something else you've done recently. Think about that and you might be able to figure it out.
Have you changed your malware software? What has changed? You can solve your problem, but nobody else can unless you give them the information needed to figure out what is going on. Don't need YouTube? Then it's not a problem.
My point is that asking questions like that without providing any other information is not going to get you a solution. Too many variables.

(97,543 posts)I have changed nothing.
Suddenly, as of a couple weeks ago, this started happening regardless of my location or ISP.
And, just like that, the videos now play for me. It's as weird as that. I shouldn't have to provide any ore info than I have for people to simply answer yes or no so I can have a direction to look into.

(149,655 posts)You have your videos back, somehow. Who knows why? You've entirely missed my point. There is no use in complaining about such things here on DU. Nobody here can help you with them. The reasons for that I have already explained.
So, you didn't see videos. Now you see videos. Something changed. I have no idea what that something was. Nobody here does.

Funny how that works.

(5,542 posts)... based upon your IP address.
Now that makes a little more sense. Though I don't use a VPN, my location that shows is not my actual location as it show where the provider is located.
It's intermittent so I am curious about how this is a thing. Thanks.

(8,061 posts)Recently though, more and more I get a message that YT will now allow this or that video to be played outside of their webpage. I then typically have to go to the YT page to view the video...I don't have to sign in. I think this may be caused by a setting on the video page that allows or disallows embedding of the video. the only time I'm forced to log in is when the video is age restricted for content, then I bail as I typically never sign in to Google.

(1,715 posts)They block ads, cookies, etc. and have a no-ads youtube viewer in their browser. None of those weird commercials.
A very minor downside is that they don't keep track of your browser history, so if you want to find a link later, save it to a document or bookmark it.
I keep Chrome and Safari on devices too, but use DDG as my main browser.

(97,543 posts)Never used a VPN. This just happens randomly. I'll watch a couple videos and sometime afterward when I try to watch one, suddenly none will play no matter what I do short of "signing in". And a little while later it's like nothing happened.
