destabilizing boneheaded move with Iran.
For example, I hear Russia said they would give them a nuclear weapon. And then there's Rubio walking with hat in hand asking China to tell mean Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
All these things would have been part of an intelligence report analysis, but no, Trump had to do everything stupidly.
And, oh, did I forget to mention that there are still Americans in Iran?

(36,945 posts)Iran was one of them.
It was a curiosity that wasn't widely reported except maybe but once--that was a mistake, probably. But a number of things pointed to an imminent attack. The spin was that there was a guaranteed 2-week period of "wait and see"; it was counterfactual, but that didn't stop the spin. Angular momentum can be a pain.
As for a security analysis, that Rubio spoke to China means they thought it a real possibility. But to do this weeks ago would have been telegraphing, so that was ruled out.
