11.22am, 23 Jun 2025
THE US EMBASSY in Dublin is tightening its visa requirements, saying that future applicants looking to visit the country will be required to divulge all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on their visa application form.
The embassy also said that it wants people to set their social media profiles to public, reiterating a move announced last week by the US State Department.
This will apply to all applicants for F, M, and J nonimmigrant visas.
The J nonimmigrant visa is the best known of these. Popularly known as the J1, it allows students and college graduates to enter the US during the summer for work and travel in the US for a limited period.

MANY years agoi I noticed delivery of mundane files on websites as the list flew by on the browser status bar, AWS (Amazon), Google and FB were supplying the files a hell of a high % of the time.
Wayback machine for websites is out there, and deleted posts, nope once placed, someone has it and if famous and it is controversial, front and center real quick!

(23,056 posts)A coworker's parents were returning to the US from visiting Asia several weeks ago. They were held at the airport by customs for 8 hours in a room. They were grilled about their views on Trump and asked to hand over their phones to answer questions about their social media posts regarding Trump.
These are Dutch people from West Michigan whose parents and grand parents were all born here. This is happening right now, and not just for immigrants or visitors, but for US citizens. Posting something anti Trump on social media can get you detained by the authorities right now.
