The Trump administration said a Salvadoran man who was mistakenly deported and then brought back to the US on criminal charges will "never go free" on American soil, even though a judge ordered his release.
Kilmar Ábrego García was deported in March as part of an immigration crackdown. Government officials said he was removed in error, but they were unable to bring him back.
Earlier this month, he was sent to the state of Tennessee, where the justice department charged him with human smuggling.
The judge overseeing the case said on Sunday that Mr Ábrego García should be released from custody while he awaits trial. But she noted immigration officials would still have the power to detain him.

(1,609 posts)They dont have any evidence that he ever committed a crime. They also cant prove hes a human smuggler, drug trafficker or gang banger.
Take it to court and PROVE it! Stop trying the case in the newspapers.

Im sure well see at some point what that specific evidence is, the polices body camera footage from that TN stop, the phone data the government is referencing, text messaging application records, the testimony of his alleged co-conspirators, etc. Heres a link to the indictment if you want to read it.

The co-conspirators testifying against him are interesting, the government has obviously cut them some kind of deal, especially the one Garcia allegedly worked for (and who owned the vehicle he was carrying people with) who is currently serving a sentence in federal prison and has a prior federal conviction for transporting illegal aliens.
Also interesting that the U.S. Attorney for that district resigned reportedly over this indictment which sources say he viewed as political.

(7,506 posts)If he is found not guilty by a jury - do they still plan to send him off to a Gulag?
So trials and juries will mean nothing?
