"Alligator Alcatraz" Florida to build detention center in the Everglades

Florida to detain migrants in new Everglades facility dubbed ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

“Alligator Alcatraz,” as Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier calls it, is being erected on a little-used airstrip in the Everglades, the vast expanse of marshes and swamps that covers much of southern Florida and hosts a dizzying array of wildlife, from hundreds of bird species to bobcats, panthers, crocodiles and alligators.

“You don’t need to invest that much in the perimeter. If people get out, there’s not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons,” Uthmeier said in an announcement video that casts the facility as “the one-stop shop to carry out President Trump’s mass deportation agenda” and features slow-motion footage of snapping alligators.

“Alligator Alcatraz” should be ready to host detainees the first week of July, Uthmeier said Monday in an interview with controversial pro-Trump, right-wing commentator Benny Johnson. Construction should be fast, Uthmeier said, as the facility will consist of “light infrastructure” like heavy-duty tents and trailers.

Noem said the new Florida detention facilities will be funded “in large part” by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Shelter and Services Program. During the Biden administration, funds from the program were used towards providing food, shelter and care for migrants released from DHS custody.

Trump will announce that his dream of reopening Alcatraz has been accomplished: promises kept.

The right wing and MAGA media - including the New York Times - will pretend that Trump's statements about reopening Alcatraz always meant Alcatraz-like structures, and that he's a brilliant idea man, and that liberals are so square always taking him literally. Other conservative governors will open their own X-Alcatraz detention facilities: a few will bite the idea of putting it in a swamp, but others will put theirs in a desert (Rattlesnake Alcatraz!), and yet others will place a detention facility in the middle of what they call the "inner city," assuming nobody would dare venture out of the detention center into the rough streets of, say, Memphis (Judgment Night Alcatraz!).

Hey, everybody, remember when we were going to re-open Alcatraz? Was that longer than two weeks ago?

worst of it,10 people lost their lives, many homes and businesses were destroyed, and 75 vehicles have been pulled from the water.
I have not heard any news that Trump declared it a disaster area of gave them any assistance from FEMA.
