Lawsuit claims University of Michigan discriminates against straight white men
Michigan Law Review targeted for using personal essays in hiring

A nonprofit group that opposes affirmative action is suing the University of Michigan and the Michigan Law Review, claiming both discriminate against straight white men.
Faculty, Alumni, and Students Opposed to Racial Preferences (FASORP) claims the Michigan Law Review, a student-run legal journal, discriminates when choosing staff and articles for the publication.
"Until recently, membership on the Law Review was an academic honor reserved for students who were selected on account of their first-year grades and their performance on a writing competition," the suit says. "But left-wing students and affirmative-action devotees at the University of Michigan Law School were unhappy with the demographic makeup produced by merit-based selection."

The U-M case was filed in federal court in Detroit. It is assigned to Judge Judith Levy, who was appointed by President Barack Obama. She earned her undergraduate and law degrees from U-M. .................(more)
