that a "spade" was considered to be a more effective weapon for infantry assault by many,
rather than a rifle with a bayonet

because the bayonet could get stuck in the victim's ribs,
but with a spade you could cleave a man nearly in half,
and it wouldn't get stuck....

(back in the days of mostly bolt-action rifles, of course, and not semi-automatics)

Very grim war novel, but I still read it about once a year.

was written from the German perspective, a fictional work about a group of German soldiers in that war...
and the Allies had their own machine guns as well. However, I consider it to be
one of the greatest anti-war novels of the 20th century...

The high casualties sustained in attacking entrenched fortified positions
using the Napoleonic-era tactics of massed infantry
against defenders armed with modern rifles had already been demonstrated
during the American civil war... but of course the folly of those tactics
being used in World War One against machine guns magnified the casualties
suffered by both sides... into the millions.

It is happening here and we just had a president say explicitly he has the right to expel anyone from the country that he sees fit "deport". And deport doesn't mean just leave the country, he is funding prison camps around the world that those people he sees as his enemies will spend the rest of their days on this earth at, no trial, no charges, just disappeared to a foreign prison indefinitely.

He doesn't care where you were born, he doesn't care if you're an immigrant at all, he just claimed the power to put you into a concentration camp simply for disagreeing with him. And you know what else, no one in Congress or on the SCOTUS is going to be able to stop him.

I'm a loyal Democrat who happens to believe in the right to own firearms within reason, that doesn't mean that I don't think that there should be sensible gun control laws, I do, the problem is that half of the country, including the SCOTUS and the POTUS don't believe in sensible controls and have armed themselves to the nth degree and it would be beyond foolish to not be prepared for what they have in mind for us.

Your post I initially responded to: "...it would be beyond foolish to not be prepared..."

So I simply asked, What does being "prepared" look like to you?

Are you prepared to gun down your neighbors? Will you shoot at them, as they're shooting at you?

I'm sincerely curious, since "...half the country...have armed themselves to the nth degree..." what do you envision your response will be and in what scenario(s)?

I made no comment to or about the OP, and I don't care what you look like. Funny though, that you thought my Rambo comment was referring to you.

55. My apologies, I musta misinterpreted your reply,
Tue Jul 1, 2025, 07:02 PM

What does being prepared mean for me?
It means taking the MAGAt's word, which they've been very vocal about and are now acting on it, that they want to kill and destroy Democrats and being prepared to meet their threat with the same force they want to use on us, as far as shooting at my neighbors if they're shooting at me, it goes without saying that, yes, I would shoot back and do my dead level best to stop the threat to my life, but I don't have to worry about my neighbors, they're not MAGAt's nor do they support what's going on in the country.

It's not really about numbers, it's about tactics, in Vietnam, we had clear tech. superiority over the VC and the NVA, but we were defeated because they didn't play by our rules, they employed guerilla tactics, hit and run and just wore us down, along with the wonderful protests in the US against the war.

I truly hope it doesn't come down to this, but I'm not optimistic, what with a pres. and a SCOTUS that encourages this shit with the rhetoric.

I hope that explains it and again, my apologies for mis reading your post.

Thu Jul 3, 2025, 12:19 AM

prefers to own at least 10,000 rounds of ammunition, rather than having sex---
if it was an "either-or" proposition
(or something like that)

Also owning an undeployable number of guns, if they intend to only arm themselves
(one can only fire one or maybe two guns at the same time...)

In any case, employing such a label against a Democratic patriot with military experience
who is expressing their willingness to take an armed stand for liberty,
"if necessary" to 'stand in the gab' between freedom and fascism,
while also expressing their support for reasonable 'gun control',
is wrong, weak, escapist and defeatist...

We are on the very edge of having that "dictatorial government"
which the NRA and gunhumpers always claimed as their justification
for opposition against gun control or any possible gov't confiscation of guns---

and it appears to me that they were quite correct, "in theory" if not in practice---
they always supposed that the impending 'dictatorial government'
would be liberal, rather than far-right---

but my opinion since Kent State was that the risk of a 'dictatorial government'
came mostly from the right, and the current circumstances certainly prove
that my supposition was quite correct

I also support the 2nd Amendment, "within reason", partly for the same reasons
that the far-right has done so--- but they have been aiming
their rhetorical guns in the wrong direction

A Wave of Black Women Gun Owners is Blowing Away Old Stereotypes
Possibly the fastest growing demographic in the nation’s arms race, Black women are finding camaraderie in groups that teach firearms safety and change the narrative around Black gun violence.

https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/community/black-women-gun-owner-groups-growing-demographic-dmv-maryland/

“Since the pandemic, since Donald Trump’s election, and all the things that are happening politically, there has been a rise in African Americans needing to—not just wanting to, needing to—protect themselves, because the racism we believed was dormant in the country….Well, race is now back on the table and we needed to collectively protect ourselves,” says Daniels.

She says that, with high crime rates and the particular vulnerability of women, it’s no wonder female gun ownership is growing.

“Women have been seen for many generations as sitting ducks,” says Daniels. “You have a lot of single moms who are raising multiple kids who are working around the clock…I think women have just decided, ‘I don’t want to be a victim anymore.’ Women have decided enough is enough
.”

An article in the Georgetown Journal of Law and Modern Critical Race Perspectives explains that, “When the Second Amendment was written, there were racist gun laws already in place, restricting the possession of firearms by Black people…Some scholars argue that the Second Amendment itself was included in the Constitution to ensure whites were able to control their Black slaves
.”

Black Americans owning guns is a protest of the status quo. Remember - Black women? We are resting. Our weekends are spent at gun clubs - not protesting in the streets. It provides me with a massive sense of calm to help other's learn, and my husband has been amazing. He was Italian Special Forces - he knows what he's doing.

Also - he's now seen me kill a squirrel mid air between two trees. He didn't think I could do it. Silly man. Green Beret's /Hunter's daughter. Of course I can. He ate it too!

For years, we have been chiding the gun nuts..."So, you're going to take up arms against the United States Government? Good luck with that".

And that's the situation we face now...the enemy is THE GOVERNMENT.

So pragmatically, how will that work. How much is ICE going to expand under this bill? 20X did I read? Are we going to start shooting heavily armed ice agents when they try to take us? How is that going to work out for us?

I agree with your sentiment, but what you are talking about is a full scale hot civil war in which we will be outnumbered (because face it...how many of us are actually up to the task of fighting a hot war)?

… how to use the several guns I have. And I guess if a band of drunken vigilantes showed up at my house with intentions of harming me or my family, I could hold my own, perhaps.

But if swat teams, ICE goon squads or the military are cleansing neighborhoods, using explosives, drones, night vision - whatever, I’m pretty sure that won’t end well for my side.

Modern technology, weapon systems and population control tactics learned in the Middle East have pretty much made the idea of peasant uprisings quaint.

I think it’s quite far fetched (yet maybe interesting to discuss?). But - realistically - if our government were to turn the military on the American population, I don’t think the “resistance” would last very long.

I just don't talk about it in public forums lest I am pilloried for being an "ammosexual" . Cowardly armchair virtue warriors are notoriously touchy and quick to whine to teacher.

People here tend to lose sight of the full spectrum of people’s beliefs. I would personally believe in never being under gunned.

If it goes hot, there will be plenty of automatic rifles to pick up off of corpses. Watch out for Lea Thompson though, she's laying on a grenade.

73. I believe in being prepared.

That said, I still believe the research from Erica Chenoweth and their research partner studying around 350 political resistance movements from 1900 to 206. Nonviolent resistance mass movements are more than twice as effective as armed rebellion is in overturning authoritarian governments.

In those they studied, the nonviolent movements that reached and sustained 3.5 percent of the population in active resistance for an average of two and a half years succeeded in replacing their dictator nonviolently. The leadership of the most successful movements included many women in various significant roles in high numbers. Those that failed were male-dominated. Factors that seemed to help was the connections women tend to bring and sustain, which helped grow the movements to those impressive numbers.

Violent movements tend to lose popular support and not gain the numbers to succeed.

That said, being prepared for self-defense is smart.

85. User name employs a maga trope "Adrenochrome"

Adrenochrome is the subject of several conspiracy theories, including QAnon and Pizzagate,[21][22][23] in which the chemical plays a similar role to Satanic ritual abuse stories.[24] The theories commonly state that a cabal of theistic Satanists rape and murder children, and harvest adrenochrome from their victims' blood as a recreational drug[25][26] or as an elixir of youth, similar to children's blood infusions.[27][28] In reality, adrenochrome has been produced by organic synthesis since at least 1952,[7][29] is synthesized by biotechnology companies for research purposes, which they sell to anyone; as it is not a controlled substance, any medical or recreational use of the chemical is effortless to access, negating the need for the expensive and dangerous process of child abduction.[30]

I think you would be well advised to choose a new user name and reregister. It's not as if you'd be losing a large posting record when you have a single post (2 now).

This comes after a spate of maga first posts on using the Second Amendment and getting removed for that. And surprise surprise your first post is on using the Second Amendment.

But carry on if you think it will gain you respect to be frequently mis-identified as QAnon.

especially with this lunatic in the WH and the current SCoTUS, but you go ahead and root for that, it's a noble cause that just ain't gonna happen, in the meanwhile, I'm preparing for what's coming, are you?
Are you willing to defend your country from these murderous MAGAt's?
Are you willing to defend your family?
Your friends?
Yourself?
What is your practical solution for this, and by practical, I mean what would pass this corrupt SC?
