(With Congressional District)
Per letter from Senator Ed Markey
With Hospital Name, City, and Congressional District
The following is a list of at-risk rural hospitals identified based on two financial criteria: (1) the hospital is in the top 10% Medicaid payer mix of rural hospitals across the country, (2) the hospital has experienced three consecutive years of negative total margin.
The Sheps Center evaluated hospitals based on Financial Distress Index data, but individualized data on that measure was not provided.

(854 posts)Good luck in the UP getting to a hospital quickly. Many of those places are like no-man's land. Their buddy trump could care less if they croak on the way to the nearest hospital.

McLaren in Mount Pleasant would affect Native Americans.

(16,620 posts)aren't you glad you voted for this guy and his so-called "hillbilly" VP? If they think Vance cares about them, they are in for a rude awakening. He tries to act like he's one of them when I, personally, think his whole story was a fraud and embellishment to paint a portrait of how he pulled himself out of poverty blah, blah, blah.

(12,584 posts)Maybe it's the definition of "rural." There are eight metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) in Arkansas. 55 of 75 counties in Arkansas do not contain MSAs.
As I would define "rural," hospitals like that in my little town are rural. The local hospital has been holding on by a thread for years. The Medicaid and Medicare cuts will likely kill it. When that happens, the nearest hospital and EMS will be close to an hour away.

(10,660 posts)... to my knowledge has struggled for many years. UNC bought out this hospital (then known as Morehead Memorial) out of bankruptcy, and amazingly persuaded the bankruptcy judge to take its offer over a shadowy for-profit group. It still struggles today but does have the UNC Health system backing them.
I'm not saying that because UNC Rockingham has UNC backing it won't be in danger.... because the whole healthcare system will be hit with Medicare & Medicaid funding cuts. That hospital has struggled and will probably continue to struggle given the demographics that it serves. Having a system like UNC Health behind it helps though.

Rappahannock General Hospital, Kilmarnock VA.
In fact, every at risk hospital in VA is in a district with a Republican Congressman.

(6,830 posts)Will throw this in the garbage without even reading it because it is a study done by Democrats. Specifically Markey, Wyden, Merkley and Schumer. Msybe they should have arranged it to be signed and sent from a nonpartisan organization. But I'm guessing they wanted their names attached even knowing it would make it moot, they poisoned it just for the recognition.
They won't care what it says.

(53,021 posts)The town I live in is too small for a hospital of its own but three small towns about 20 miles away have hospitals that I would have bet would be on such a list. I would have been left with one hospital about 20 miles away from my house but about an hour away from my work. But miraculously none of those hospitals are on that list.

(2,423 posts)I commented that Moreno lies. The old Mead plant in Chillicothe was to shut down because of Trump's manipulation of the economy. He said that the company was going to stay in operation. It didn't, a week or so after Moreno's announcement they sent out warn letters.

(2,423 posts)Wasn't that the republican plan. To shutdown local hospitals and just have a triage station and then send to a hospital in say Columbus.
