🔥🔥🔥60 seconds in Trumps America, played out 3,000 times a day across the country. An immigrant shows up for a regularly scheduled court date. It happens very fast. It seems random but its accelerated. They are taken after leaving the court. They disappear them.

ICE grabbed the wrong man in front of an immigration building. His children started sobbing as his wife refused to leave his side. Turns out, they grabbed the wrong man.

(7,140 posts)He wants to snatch anyone he wants and send them anywhere he wants. Citizens included. Naturalized, born here, he doesn't really care. He's been telling us this for, what, 15 years? He ran around for how long claiming Obama can't be a citizen because only 1 parent was a citizen.
They'll find an excuse to rip citizenship away. If you even see a judge you won't have a lawyer and you won't a say. You'll just be disappeared. SCOTUS won't stop it. Even if they try Trump lawyers already said he won't obey any ruling he doesn't like. Supposedly Amy Barrett had the gall to be shocked.
Personally, I don't care if someone is citizen or not, papers or not, I don't care if they are great folks or murderers - everyone deserves basic human rights. Everyone deserves fair access to the judicial system. A lot of the liberal battles of my 80+ yr lifetime were for that cause. In just a few months... it is nearly wiped away.
I thought it would not come to this. I still hope it doesn't, but I think now I was wrong.

...but this totalitarianism comes with a strong Russian influence, both in the actual subversion from Putin and Trump's collusion and in the way the Stasi was used to crush and materially eliminate political dissent, and the way it appeared to be modeled after the KGB which was also used to maintain imposed authority through fear and intimidation, including jailing of dissidents and others, using a large paramilitary force at the control and direction of the central governments.
Trumps spending cuts and border security package would inject roughly $150 billion into his mass deportation agenda over the next four years, funding everything from an extension of the United States southern border wall to detention centers to thousands of additional law enforcement staff.
The current annual budget for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the governments primary department for immigration enforcement, is around $10 billion. If the Republican presidents big bill passes in Congress, the immense cash infusion could reshape Americas immigration system by expanding the law enforcement and detention network while increasing costs to legally immigrate to the U.S.
One thing about this bill, these sections are super vague, said Adam Isacson, a researcher with the Washington-based human rights advocacy organization WOLA, including multibillion-dollar expenditures sometimes explained in just a few vague lines. Theres no real specificity in the bill about how its going to be spent.

...or, is it $175 billion?
Overall, the Senate version will dedicate $175 billion to an immigration crackdown, including an extra $30 billion for ICE, which can be spent over four years. To put that in perspective, ICEs current budget is about $8 billion per year.
The bill also designates $45 billion for detention facilities, which can also be spent at any time over the next four years. By comparison, the U.S. spends about $8 billion a year on the Bureau of Prisons.
Although the Senate budget bill contains a dizzying array of provisions, ranging from tax breaks for the wealthy to massive cuts to Medicaid, Vice President JD Vance argued Monday that immigration is the main reason to pass it.
Everything else the CBO score, the proper baseline, the minutiae of the Medicaid policy is immaterial compared to the ICE money and immigration enforcement provisions, he said.
