Mr. Abrego's Account of Torture at CECOT in El Salvador
Mr. Abrego has filed an amended complaint asking the court to declare the government's actions unlawful and to order his release. He describes his torture in El Salvador in the complaint.
Upon arrival at CECOT, the detainees were greeted by a prison official who stated, Welcome to CECOT. Whoever enters here doesnt leave. Plaintiff Abrego Garcia was then forced to strip, issued prison clothing, and subjected to physical abuse including being kicked in the legs with boots and struck on his head and arms to make him change clothes faster. His head was shaved with a zero razor, and he was frog-marched to cell 15, being struck with wooden batons along the way. By the following day, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia had visible bruises and lumps all over his body.
Plaintiff Abrego Garcia repeatedly observed prisoners in nearby cells who he understood to be gang members violently harm each other with no intervention from guards or personnel. Screams from nearby cells would similarly ring out throughout the night without any response from prison guards on personnel.
During his first two weeks at CECOT, Plaintiff Abrego Garcia suffered a significant deterioration in his physical condition and lost approximately 31 pounds.

(50,499 posts)What was the purpose of having them kneel from 9PM to the morning? None other than barbaric torture. I hope the US government pays dearly for this in a civil lawsuit.
I don't think the Alligator prison will be better.

(36,918 posts)But this was no different than the treatment of any other prisoner in that facility. Dehumanization. the difference is that he was never convicted of anything in the US or El Salvador to prompt rendition to a foreign prison.
The DOJ is going to have a hell of a time suppressing testimony to this abuse at his smuggling trial. I'd nullify that jury in a heartbeat.
As much as I despise Republicans, I do think the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport will be better than CECOT.

(2,750 posts)A civil law suit? This is a little more serious than that. These are crimes against humanity.
Let the perpetrators pay restitution, not the government.

(7,705 posts)that even if it happened they have no control over what a foreign government does and that he was not under their control. Nuremberg types of excuses.
