Air craft carriers are huge , its like a miniature city, do you know what they do with the garbage? do they bag it and wait till they get to port?? NO , "Sponson 8 is now open!" this means if you got a bag of garbage this part of the ship you can bring your garbage and throw it over the side, some of it sinks, some of it doesn't, and bags do rip open even underwater.
