PA-GOV: Meuser (R) Opts Out of Gubernatorial Run
U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser (R-09) has decided not to contend for the Republican nomination for governor of Pennsylvania and challenge incumbent Gov. Josh Shapiro in the 2026 cycle.
Sources are telling ABC News that Meuser has recently told associates he will not enter the race. Someone familiar the call also shared that the four-term congressman delivered the news to President Donald Trump on Saturday.
Trump gave his support to Meuser during a rally in Pittsburgh last month, saying Hes been a great congressman. And if you run, you have my full support. And youll win. The people are going to get it real fast.
The move could clear the runway for state treasurer Stacy Garrity to be the GOP choice to challenge Pennsylvanias popular chief executive. Garrity, who has hinted that she is strongly considering a run at the governors mansion, was the overwhelming favorite during an April straw poll of Pennsylvania Leadership Conference attendees, receiving 41.1% support to just 9.13% for Meuser and 6.39% for 2022 candidate state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Adams/Franklin).
