AUSTIN (Nexstar) — As the relief and recovery efforts from the deadly Central Texas flash floods push on, Sen. John Cornyn is joining other politicians in criticizing those who he says make the situation about politics

But Cornyn, asked if Congress should begin an investigation into the cuts at the National Weather Service, made clear he believes those cuts had no impact.

“That had nothing to do with this outcome,” Cornyn said. “If there are lessons to be learned at the federal level, we’ll be learning those lessons and trying to do everything we can to prevent tragedies like this from occurring in the future.”

As for FEMA cuts, Cornyn said the resources available to the region are plentiful, crediting President Donald Trump and Kristi Noem, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, for directing resources to the region.
