I know a lady who mistakenly, not deliberately or with malice aforethought, did not accurately report her work hours to Social Security and was overpaid $6000.00. She made a deal to pay $200 a month deducted from her check monthly which she and the examiner were more than satisfied with.
After DOGE review, they are withholding the entire check until the amount due is paid. Fair enough, although draconian. BUT
she has her Medicare Medical premium withdrawn normally BUT rather than withdrawing it from her check amount and withholding the balance of the check she now has to pay quarterly IN ADVANCE for her premium or she has no coverage.
Any manner of screwing someone in the lower classes over and they figure a way to do so, but lists of pedophiles and ephedrophiles linked to the wealthy and powerful just disappear. Wondrous is this world in which we are living.

The difference being the entire years worth of premiums becomes instantly due the second withholding stops.
Then, if too many people are dropping their plans, they start playing with the dates of the open season. Which if you dont drop that coverage during an open season then you are auto-reenrolled. In my case, open season had always been two months November through December for years. In a sudden sparsely announced change of terms, it was changed to one month of October. All perfectly legal. Luckily, I caught the change by happenstance. I know several people who didnt and were responsible for yet another year of stuff they didnt want or need. But, thats a different thread.
