If we could get UBI and Medicare for All that would be a great political accomplishment. Medicare For All should have private insurance on top of basic Medicare (if someone wants it and can afford it). The Super Rich will always have access to high level medicine regardless. So three tiers- Medicare For All, Supplemental Private Insurance, and Platinum Level Care for the Super Rich. I am not a Fan of some in the so called Billionaire Class but we need to get some of them on our side. Gates is the best example of how a Responsible Businessman should act. More can be said but I will leave off for now.

(20,090 posts)First, the filibuster must die, and there arent enough Dems to do that, and there werent even when Dems had the majority.
Second, even if the filibuster dies, youd have to find enough Dems to support MFA, and the numbers simply arent there.
Last month, 16 Dem senators voted to loosen regulations on cryptocurrency, after some of them received millions (Gallego got $10 million alone) in donations from crypto PACs. Now imagine how many millions would flow from Humana, Aetna and all the other health insurance companies.
So, in order to get MFA, we first have to elect only those Dems who support MFA and killing the filibuster to pass it.
Everyone should keep that in mind as the primaries for the midterms get closer.

(105 posts)Fiendish- Do you have a link to the best web site for following and sorting out the Primaries? I am in Stronghold New York but I might be able to do some online activism to help get the right Democrats elected. Let me know one way or another if you would.

As for the senate, we need anti-filibuster nominees in Maine, NC, Alaska, NE, TX, KY for starters.
Nobody has declared yet, but when they do, their position on the filibuster and court expansion should be the first question you ask.
Dont expect a straight answer.

(330 posts)Medicare cost close to $300/month. If my husband and I had to pay that we would be living in the streets. Luckily we qualify for a Medicare Savings Program with the State of Washington. But, everyday, I worry about when that program will go away...
I am sorry that you are in that position and I am glad that you have a Medicare Savings Program. I hope that the Program stays in place. Stay safe and be well.
