Not sure where to put this.
It's oriented toward shooters and collectors, but he doesn't get directly political about it.
Fascinating history.

(9,048 posts)It's in .22 SHORT, which is a really, really weak cartridge.... the rifle design is overkill for that cartridge.
.22 Short was developed initially as a pocket pistol cartridge, but was popular for use with shooting clubs, becuase it can actually be used at indoor ranges with relatively simple precautions.
But that old rolling block design is pretty neat.
The Boy Scout Camp I attended have one. I won the shooting tournament that year, and when I got my prizes, they also let me shoot the antique, which was pretty fun.

(13,187 posts)Kind of the same deal. Lightweight single shot, but a bolt action. It could shoot .22 short or long.
I think he got it as a present when he was 9 or 10. Handy if you inadvertently come across a cottonmouth in a flooded rice field.
