The U.S. Alcohol Industry Is Reeling From Canada's Booze Boycott

Canada’s prohibition on U.S. alcohol is creating a headache for American liquor and winemakers.

On the shelves of many Canadian liquor stores, bottles of Jack Daniel’s, Maker’s Mark and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum are nowhere to be found. Thousands of bottles of U.S. wine and spirits sit in storage across the country. At tastings, Canadian drinkers are turning their noses up at American alcohol.

After President Trump initiated a series of trade battles with Canada earlier this year, Canadian provinces, which largely handle alcohol imports and distribution in the country, stopped placing orders for American-made spirits, beer and wine. In liquor stores, clerks pulled U.S. brands off shelves, replacing them with Canadian products.

Mike Brisebois, who runs a digital magazine called The Whisky Explorer, held a tasting in June where he served only Canadian, Irish and Scotch whiskies—on the recommendation of his guests. “The general theme was that they were boycotting the U.S.,” he said.

Close your markets to U.S. goods. Also, find alternative countries to export to. You can't fully shut out the U.S., but you can cause a great deal of pain.

...this is partly how you push for change. I'm certain Mitch McConnell's and Rand Paul's constituents aren't happy about this, and those senators will be lobbying hard to get concessions. Democrats need to make the concerted effort to hurt Texas businesses (and I keep mentioning a certain airline because airlines is extremely economically sensitive) and encouraging black and brown student-athletes to not attend Texas schools. The University of Texas is currently ranked number one the pre-season college polls. They don't win without diverse athletes. The same goes for Texas volleyball, which lives in the top-20 of national rankings.

Messing with football in Texas is hitting where it hurts. Protests are not enough. Pain must be felt in order for those with ill-will to reconsider their stances.

So they are getting it from both sides. Too bad. It killed my parents so I won't shed a tear for them.
