Was because of investment, maintenance and progress. The North invested and built the transcontinental railroad ( which the Soutth did not want ) and that allowed the North to get men and supplies to the front faster and the injured to care faster.

Same thing today. DEI is progressive and MAGA and trump want to regress and never invest in needed maintenance.

if these jerks don’t want to invest in needed maintenance, maybe that needed maintenance should go to the states/areas where road maintenance IS something that’s wanted and appreciated. Heck, they’re already paying for it.
