HRC and KH were more qualified for the POTUS role than almost every other candidate.

In 2016, here on Democratic Underground, I was derided as a "vagina voter." In 2024, VP Harris was extolled as having run a flawless campaign. Day after the election, a certain Independent Senator came out screaming about her not caring about the working class, a lie that some on this board still repeat.

That's the sad thing - they don't bear shame. They double down on their calumnies against these stateswomen.

5. Don't blame non-voters. Go after them!

The political system is broken, and blame should be focused on those who broke it: Republicans. And probably on the founding fathers who tried their best but were too content with an aristocracy.

Things aren't so simple any more. The Republican establishment already collapsed and far-right populism took over. The Democratic establishment is weakening and sometimes mis-calculating. Shifting media and generational change make traditional politics difficult. Outright cheating from the Republicans cause an even greater disadvantage.

In a massive country like the current US, building an informal coalition is very difficult. It might be useful to drop the notion of the "true" Democrat and view all voters as potential coalition partners. We need to offer people something to get their votes. Offer an effective progressive agenda and a vision of the country that attracts voters, and try to reconcile divisions caused by wedge issues. Don't ignore any realistic coalition partner and assume they will just be forced to vote for Democrats. The Democratic Party is not a tribe, religion or identity. Don't expect loyalty. Appeal to reason.

And if shaming non-voters over their part in allowing trump's two destructive terms in office helps us win, so be it. I'm betting someone like Gavin Newsom can deliver that well-deserved shame, without pissing too many people off. Whatever it takes.

Who wins the presidency isn't important, one the main leaders says. Progress that is incremental and done through compromise, which is how government works, is a sin It's all about purity of the movement/revolution all or nothing. Classic liberal Democratic goals are repeated over and over as issues Democrats ignore and think are radical, the establishment that is the true enemy.
