(436 posts)......quality education as their goal, but instead just their "choice" to decide who teaches their precious spawn, and who might be sitting next to them in the classroom. DCM - thanks for posting this. Interesting.

(113,863 posts)I would vastly prefer the system many European countries have, the general diploma followed by up to two years of trade school. AI and robotics might start to run industry, but we're going to need skilled people to tell them what to do and fix them when they screw up. We're going to need skilled service workers and skilled techs.
Having them sit through 2-3 extra years of high school, bored out of their minds and completely uninterested in the subject matter, is not going to produce them. We also don't need to keep labeling kids who quit at 16 as "dropouts." Give them an alternative, they won't drop.
