For the FBI theory to work, then this video must be from AFTER he ditched the gun -- or perhaps BEFORE the shooting if he had the gun pre-positioned.

He allegedly jumped off the roof after the shooting and took off for a neighborhood behind the campus.

I guess the barrel and receiver could have been removed from the stock and then screwed back on, but that would only save around 10" max or so. I'm not sure how much is involved in removing the stock on an older Mauser 30-06. Also, care would need to be taken with the scope not to be knocked out of alignment. It seems more likely the gun was stashed somewhere closer to or on the roof.
