(19,754 posts)Certainly not the majority but a fair number of people seem very eager to dismiss this. I have no idea what happened. But its a very odd coincidence. Generally speaking there are 3 parties that have access to airline reservations. The airline, the government and the passenger. It sure doesnt seem like he canceled the flight so that eliminates one possibility.

(2,907 posts)there isn't a nefarious explanation behind it all, who knows, but this has happened to me more than several times. They call it getting "bumped". Those jerks overbook flights and count on a certain percentage of people not showing up. If everyone does show up, someone has to get bounced. The tickets are paired with the purchase and they will treat it as a party, so if there are two people and only one seat left, both will get bumped. It really should be illegal, it's highly inconvenient when it happens.
